How did we survive in the days when we were kids???

Surfing some Dad-centered blogs today, I stumbled across an absurd product called a Bumper Bonnet. And yes, from looking at this pic, it is a helmet for toddlers. The write-up at One Step Ahead says

Bumper Bonnet
Learning to crawl? Starting to walk? When baby is accident prone, the Bumper Bonnet prevents bumps, bruises, and tears. The soft, thickly-padded head covering acts as a protective cushion, shielding that delicate little head. Lightweight, with an adjustable chinstrap. Machine wash. One size fits babies 6-36 months. Imported. Colors may vary.

I sometimes wonder how any kid over the age of 10 survived their childhood? I am who I am today because of the bumps, bruises, cuts, scrapes, mild concussions, twisted limbs and trouble I often found myself in. Today’s kids just are not given the chance to be ‘real kids” OK, I see the validity of a bicycle helmet or even a ski helmet for kids, but doesn’t a toddler helmet just give parents the excuse to A… not watch their kids and B… not baby proof their house?

Maybe this is an example where a bunch of people will read this and be laughing as to how my opinions will change once I have a kid, but jeez, doesn’t this seem a bit extreme?
