Opening Ceremonies

(Moncton, June 25th, 2007) - This Thursday, June 28th, the Multicultural Association of Greater Moncton will be holding the Multicultural Rendez-Vous.07 Opening Ceremonies. The event will be held at 6 p.m. in the Empress Room, at Capitol Theatre.

Rendez-Vous festival opening remarks will be presented by Mayor of Dieppe Achille Maillet, Deputy Mayor of Riverview Ron Davis and Deputy Mayor of the City of Moncton Merrill Henderson. There will be a performance by the Glad Tidings African Children's Choir, followed by a captivating performance by Maggie Zeng playing the Guzheng.

The Zheng, commonly known as Guzheng, (pronounced "Goo-Zheng"), is a plucked string instrument that is part of the zither family. It is one of the most ancient Chinese musical instruments according to the documents written in the Qin dynasty (before 206 BC). The guzheng has been a popular instrument since ancient times and is considered as one of the main solo instruments of Chinese traditional music. Since the mid-19th century, guzheng solo repertoire has been growing and evolving towards an increasing technical complexity. This is a must-see performance.

MAGMA will also proudly present the booklet: "New Beginnings: Short Stories, Big Achievements. Greater Moncton Newcomers Share their Stories." The booklet showcases 17 stories of successful newcomers that will amaze and inspire you. You don't want to miss it!
