Blurring the message on domestic adoption

Monday, April 30, 2007 | |

We have all see the commercial on television which showed lots of children available for adoption in NB. This commercial seemed to be on every night last fall. The adoption community ran a strong campaign last fall to have them change or remove this add because of its strong undertones against international adoption.

The text below came from Deb Nobes. She was somewhat responsible for the efforts last year to correct this ad.  It seems that the advertising agency has decided against our thoughts and concerns and will begin airing the ads again in their unchanged format. Please involve all people you know with this and email Bristol group and all involved agencies advising them of their ignorance. Here is the email for their Marketing VP and the PR person. I have already emailed them on this along with my MLA and the Premier himself. I also included all the top management @ The Bristol group so that they would also be aware of our concerns. From their site.

From Deb…

Last fall, many of you signed a letter I wrote objecting to an ad campaign commissioned by the New Brunswick Foundation. As we all know, the ad is hurtful and damaging to our families and our children. Within a week of receiving the letter, the foundation pulled the ad. However, last week we received a letter from the foundation's executive director Suzanne Kingston informing us that the board of directors, under the direction of its new chair, Louis Leger, decided the campaign was too effective to change. The ads will continue.

We are still trying to stop this ad from running on radio and television and ask again for your support in getting it off the air. The details can be found here: http://mysteriouseast.squarespace.com/

Please help us get our own message out by passing this link around and responding to it on our blog. We are meeting with our MLA next week to ask for help and want to bring your
comments to this meeting. Our children deserve better.

Thanks so much
Deb Nobes and Philip Lee
