Weekend update

The weekend was nice as we had no real commitments. I had an afternoon nap yesterday which is a rarity for me. I’ll blame it on my Saturday activities and not on my age.

First, church. St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Moncton seems to be happening spot for any Chinese activities in the city. They rehearsed for CNY celebrations there, we picked up our CNY tickets there, they offer a Tai-Chi class there, the kids’ Saturday morning Chinese school is there, etc… So, on a mission to find a good family church for us, we decided to go there yesterday and check it out. How do they know? How does every church know when you’re an outsider? We’ve gone to a few different churches on the last couple of years and BOOM! They always swarm us like piranhas after the service. Anyways, back to my point. Nothing really stood out for us. Yes, there were a substantially higher percentage of Asians there, but that was it.

We won painting for 2 rooms in the house at a charity auction some time ago and the guy is coming tomorrow so it was prep mode this weekend... fix the small scrapes and dents on the walls, pull off all the curtain rods, hooks, hangers, etc.. As the room is a mess and in a state of transition, this is a good time to replace to old door casings and baseboards at the same time. Good timing as well as Home Hardware had 50% off this stuff.  I love a bargain. As it was such a deal, we bought enough to also do the kid’s room.

As Jennifer and I are far from interior decorators, we had a Benjamin Moore Color Expert come in to tell us what colors we needed. As this didn’t take her too long, Jen paraded her upstairs and showed her the crib set we bought for the kid’s room. She picked out a nice gender-neutral color for the room, so that’s what we’re going with. Sorry kid, there’s no romantic story on how we designed your nursery. The crib is a hand-me-down and the crib set was on sale at the Sears Outlet in Halifax. We told the decorator not to give us options for paint colors as we cannot decide on things like that. That’s the life of 2 practical thinkers.

As much as we sometimes don’t believe it, our days as “Double Income No Kids” (you do the abbreviation) is quickly coming to an end. It’s time for us to get rolling on getting this kids room done  as I do not want to spend the nice days of spring inside painting.
