Children's Bridge has received more information and clarity on most of the changes that will be made by the CCAA. These all take effect for files logged after May 1, 2007 so we are safe. Plus from the clarification, we would not have been affected by the changes.
Here's an interesting fact on while we have experienced more delay in getting matched with our child. Children's Bridge says that "from 2003 the increase in number of families was 49% in 2004, over 100% in 2005 and 126 % in 2006. At the same time the number of children decreased by over 10% in 2005 and over 16% in 2006"
So, if there was a 1 to 1 ratio at the end of 2004, the numbers would look like this today based on just 1000 children and families.
1000 families + 100% increase in 2005 = 2000 families + 126% increase in 2006 = 4520 families wanting to adopt
1000 children - 10% decrease in 2005 = 900 children - 16% decrease in 2006 = 756 children available to adopt.
That's a ratio of almost 6 families for every child. That's based on a 1 to 1 ratio. I'm not sure what the actual ratio was in 2004.
As you can see, the number of families in the system today are much greater than the amount of children that are available to be adopted. Even for us at the end of 2005, there were many more families than children.
