Did anyone watch CBC Sunday Morning?

Did anyone see Carol MacNeil put her foot in her mouth yesterday on the CBC “Sunday Morning” TV Show?

Evan Soloman did a good piece on the ever increasing technology in reproductive sciences and the problems that this is creating (egg and sperm selling, half brothers and sisters all over the place, targeting poor college kids for them to make money). It was quite an interesting few minutes.

After the story, Evan came on set and sat down with Carol MacNeil. He said that this assignment was quite personal for him as his wife and him had tried reproductive technologies without success before they adopted from China. They returned home and soon after found out that they were pregnant. Good for them. Carol made some comment about “you seem to hear of people adopting then getting pregnant all the time nowadays” and some reference that people just need to relax and things will happen. Well, Evan quickly put her in her place (in a polite CBC kind of way) and told her that is it NOT all that common, and (being an investigative reporter) whenever he heard that story, he researched these stories and in most cases people were talking about them and didn’t even know it. They heard from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend.

So there you go… even people in front of a camera don’t always know what they’re talking about. Carol, stick with the script. Leave the unrehearsed conversation for off-camera.
