A tough week at work. Things have been quite busy and sometimes 5 days feels like 50. On a positive note, our answering machine was nice to me this week and had a couple of interesting messages for me when I got home. It has nothing to do with adoption. More on that later.
Things continue to be slow with the adoption. One of the families we communicate with has been asked for more information on a prior medical condition from the Chinese government. We’re hoping that all will turn out fine with that.
There is activity with some of the groups ahead of us.
· Group 236 in China right now. One baby has a respiratory infection, which is not unusual for China.
· Group 237 and 238 are in the final pre-travel phase. These groups leave during the first week of November.
· Group 239 have sent their letter of acceptance back to CCAA this week and they will be travelling to Guangdong Province in the third week of November.
The last paragraph in this weeks update had an interesting note. It said that any families that are referred a baby from Guangdong province will have to spend 17 days in China, not 13-14 days like most provinces. This is a change in the adoption procedure from the province of Guangdong itself. It doesn’t say what the extra days are for. I assume they’re spent in Guangdong as this change was made by the province.
If Group 239 is the last group with any activity, that leaves 12 groups between them and us. I think the Yang’s were in Group 223 and they’ve been back just over a year now. I know the program has slowed down since then so this may not be accurate, but that’s 13 groups between them and the group that’s there now in about a year. If timelines were the same as then, quick math says that we’re still over 12 months to referral and 14 months to travel. *gasp*. We thought we’d travel in August of 2006 and that didn’t happen, last Halloween, we thought that that was our last Halloween alone and we’re going to be wrong. Last Christmas, Jennifer said she’d scream if she has to spend Christmas with just me this year (I know she meant something nice by that). Looks like I’ll ask for earplugs for Christmas. I had thought that maybe we’ll get the referral on Jen’s birthday near the end of March and be in China for my birthday at the end of May, but that’s beginning to be a fading thought.
Somebody, polish up your crystal ball and ask it when we’ll be getting our child. If there’s anyone out there who’s going to a fortune teller in the near future, ask them for us.
Jennifer’s friend Heather and her husband Joey had a baby girl last week. All are doing well. We were a little concerned that they would take another name from our list of potential girl names but it looks like we’re safe. Jen’s friend Joan and her husband Wayne had a girl a few months ago and they named their little girl with one of the names on our list. Not many people who read this will know any of these people, so we’ll keep you guessing as to what “Gertrude’s” real name will be.
That’s all from here. Stop by our guestbook and say HI. We’re only at 61 visitors in the guestbook and we’d like to know you stopped by our website.
Scott (& Jen)
